A signed production cel from the Walt Disney Studios animated Mickey Mouse short "The Nifty Nineties" (1941). Featuring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse driving to the theater in their classic car, the hand-painted cel was created at the studio and used during the animation process. The cel is an actual frame of animation that was photographed and appears in the cartoon. The original Courvoisier mat has been hand-signed by Walt Disney himself, with the personalized inscription "to Dr. + Mrs. Hoffman with best wishes Walt Disney." The Disney Studio art department originally prepared the cel for sale at the Courvoisier Galleries. The piece exhibits traditional characteristics of a Courvoisier setup including the cel being trimmed to the image, applied to a custom-painted airbrush background, and displayed in a Courvoisier style mat. Measuring 16.5"x17.5" matted with a 7"x7.5" mat opening, and with the character image measuring 5.75"x6.5", the cel is in very good condition with some paint wear and cracking around the right light fixture and Minnie's ear area, and minor spots of discoloration. The 2"x5" signature inscription shows no notable damage, but the matting and frame have some wear from age and storage.
